When Alyse and her husband took a trip to the Parker in Palm Springs, they had visions of sipping cocktails poolside, people watching, and just taking in all the splendor of the beautiful Parker Hotel. It's serious eye-candy for the design obsessed. Unfortunately since temps were in the 50's, she scrapped her idea of lounging by the pool and set off on a mission to score some vintage goodies for the shop. This was Palm Springs after all and as all you vintage lovers know, this is the mecca of mid-century modern and all things Hollywood glam!
First stop for any vintage lover is N. Palm Canyon Drive in the Uptown Design District. There is a plethora of amazing stores along this street that will wow any mid-century modern collector. Alyse stopped into Bon Vivant and visited with the owners Patrick and James. They are a fun pair who have a keen eye for beautiful vintage glass, housewares, furniture, art, and jewelry.
Next up was Flow Modern where you'll find immaculate Mastercraft furniture, bar carts and barware, and beautiful vintage jewelry. Alyse fell in love with Brigitte's Mastercraft desk. It is gorgeous!
Boulevard was next on Alyse's stop where she had a fun time visiting with Jay Hart. Not only does Jay have a wealth of industry knowledge having spent over 20 years in the interior design industry, he's also a movie Set Director. If you are seeking a one of a kind vintage piece, Blvd is sure to have it. And Jay was kind enough to take a peek at the AnthologyHouse storefront on Chairish and gave Alyse some insight on the designer of our recently acquired Brass Ibex Lucite Lamp.
Next up was a La MOD. This place was pure eye candy and Alyse couldn't stop taking pictures.
After finishing her tour on Palm Canyon Drive, Alyse headed to Cathedral City at the advice of Jay at Blvd. Tucked into what looks like a business park are a slue of vintage and consignment shops, many of which have some reasonably priced vintage wares. Be sure to check out Modern Spaces and Hedge. Both offer a treasure trove of vintage pieces - from furniture to whimsical home décor.
Next time we'll have to take a road trip so we can bring home an amazing piece like this ibex table by Chervet.
And last but not least, a shopping trip is not complete without hitting up some local thrift stores. Alyse had the best luck at Revivals, a local thrift shop chain that features not only nicer used furniture but some quality used clothing as well. If you like to dig, you'll love Revivals.
With limited time Alyse wasn't able to scour all the amazing vintage shops in the Palm Springs area. Hopefully we'll have the opportunity to shop Palm Springs again in 2014. If you have a favorite shop in the Palm Springs area, drop us a line. We'd love to hear from you.
