When procuring ceramic pieces for the shop, we are particularly on the hunt for California pottery from the 50's and 60's. We are drawn to the colorful, simple boomerang shapes and delicately glazed works that often featured hand painted designs incorporating 22 kt gold. One of the more well known artists from this time period was Sascha Brastoff, an iconic potter who was a master of creating notable housewares, sculptures, and masks. It's rare to find his works at thrift shops and garage sales but occasionally we stumble upon one of his pieces and are thrilled when the piece is in immaculate condition and retains his signature rooster stamp.
We created a lovely treasury on Etsy featuring some of our fellow sellers Sascha Brastoff pieces. Are you a California pottery collector? Do you have a favorite Sascha Brastoff pattern?
