Kristie Berg :: Customer Spotlight

Alyse Hufford

We are excited to introduce you to this month's customer spotlight....Kristie Berg is a friend and fellow design enthusiast who has turned her mid-century modern home into a spectacular showcase.  Her interior styling is some serious eye candy.  She has created a visually stunning space by combining both vintage and new pieces that evokes a feeling of eclectic mod + glam chic. Kristie Berg

My style is ... Modern, eclectic. I like simple with bold statements.  This is true for me in decorating as well as fashion.

How did you discover your style? Any influences?  I've always loved homes.  Even as a very young girl, I loved walking through open houses just to see the different ways homes were designed and built and the way people lived in them. The idea of taking a house from dismal to great makes me excited in a way few other things do. I still walk into almost any open house I see.  I think this was a catalyst for my love of design. Over time, your taste and influence change. Mine has landed on a love for all things mid-century, anything filled with light and space that is usable and well designed.

My favorite era and and designers are ... I think there's fabulous design in almost every era (although I've yet to see a house built in the 80's-90's that I love), but my true love is for the late 50's and 60's.  I love Jonathan Adler's work and eye. I also like a touch of Kelly Wearstler. Often times her work is too busy for me, but I like the glamour she creates and adds to a room.

Do you have a favorite home magazines or decor style books (that speak to your aesthetic?  Elle Décor,  Design Sponge at Home, and I obsess over Pinterest.

What current home decorating trends can you identify with and which trends do you steer clear from?  While I love chevron, I think it's overdone at this point. I am completely head over heals for the brass/gold trend in hardware and accent pieces. Black and white has also been a staple in my home. I don't ever seem to get tired of it. I was recently at a hotel in San Jose Del Cabo (El Ganzo) that used black and white tiles in all different patterns throughout all the bathrooms. It was gorgeous.

Are you on Pinterest and if so, do you have a board designated for the home? When you look at the entire board do you see an aesthetic that defines you from everything you've pinned?  I can't think of another company that has been created in the last five years that I've been more into than Pinterest. It caters to the time I have (or lack thereof) and serves as great inspiration. I have a board for almost everything.

Are you a collector of anything particular?  Maybe Adler pieces, but anytime I realize I have multiple of something, I tend to back off a bit. I would love to collect Jennifer Ament works. I bought myself her Peacock a few years ago and would love to have an entire wall of her pieces.

If you could wish for anything vintage, what would be your ideal pieces and/or furniture?  A mint condition Eames Lounger.

How do you define or imagine the perfect home?  Filled with light, love and a great story.

How did you discover AnthologyHouse?  Truth be told, I live, play and raise my kids in the same community as Amy & Alyse. I didn't know them personally, but we had common friends. Then I discovered Amy's Mixed Green Pinterest Board and I seriously became a Pinterest stalker. I still think that board is perfection and probably the best put together board I've ever seen on Pinterest.  By the way, Neiman Marcus thought so too.

Did you style the items you purchased from AnthologyHouse in a favorite room or office of yours or give as a gift?  Oh man, I've kept every piece for myself. I have a few pieces at my home and a few at our beach cabin.  The brass pieces they find add something to any room.

What's next on the horizon for you, creatively or business wise?  With my youngest heading off to kindergarten,  I think the horizon is bright. Perhaps I'll find an open house to walk into.

Thank you Kristie for giving our followers a peek into your home and what influences your style.  You've got a keen eye for making a space comfortable and glam. We look forward to seeing more of your vintage scores and of course those pins on Pinterest.
