Saying Goodbye to Mad Men

Alyse Hufford

don draper apartment 1

I don't know about you but I'm having a hard time coming to terms that Mad Men ends tonight.  The show which features big ego characters at a Madison Avenue advertising agency set during the 1950's-1960's has rejuvenated a fascination with all things mid-century modern.  You can't pick up an interior design magazine today without seeing a swanky bar cart.  It was a staple during the Mad Men era and without the show, don't think we'd see such a following for them as we do today.

Each week I am transfixed on the show's set to see what similar pieces I have for sale or sold from AnthologyHouse.  Be it an ice bucket, barware, or a coffee table I can proudly say that I've sold the same piece that has been featured on my favorite TV show.

And you can still get some Mad Men inspired decor in the shop including a pair of vintage cane chairs, mid century table lamp, Fred Press cheese board, vintage ice bucket, and brass swan planters.  All have been marked down to celebrate the end of Mad Men.  Here's to you Don Draper!

Get the Look : Vintage Giltwood Crest Mirror

Alyse Hufford

justina-blakeney Have you seen Justina Blakeney's ad for Loloi?  Not only do I love the rug they featured in her eclectic boho living room but noticed she has an almost identical giltwood crest mirror to one I currently have for sale on Chairish.

Check it out!

Get the Look : Vintage Walking Canes

Alyse Hufford

I don't know about you but I am obsessed with entryways.  Probably because mine at home is small and I do all I can to give the elusion that it's bigger with the use of a bench, coat rack, and cushions.  There are many ways you can accessorize an entryway and one piece that is classic and will add traditional sophistication to an entry space is an umbrella stand to display not only your umbrellas but vintage walking canes. umbrella stand house beautiful

I picked up this Vintage Brass Greyhound Head Walking Stick at a flea market and think it would look beautiful with a collection of umbrellas and walking sticks to give your entryway that vintage wow factor.  It's for sale in the Chairish online storefront for $78 and includes free shipping.

To see how you can style this piece in your home, check out the picture below and how a nice collection of vintage canes are held together by an umbrella stand.  Their vintage look combined with a modern upholstered bench are the perfect blend of old + new in this traditional home.

I also like how an old wooden tennis racket is grouped with this vintage cane.  I've seen a similar look used with vintage badminton rackets + canes + a plaid covered bench.

Get the Look : Italian Tole Chandelier

Alyse Hufford

1.23.

In this week's Get the Look, I bring you the tole chandelier.  I picked up a Vintage Italian Tole Chandelier in the classic lily design and just listed it on Chairish.  To get a similar look, check out what Dita Von Teese did in her retro pink kitchen.  She used her vintage chandelier to round out the feminine vibe of her 1950's kitchen.

If you are want to modernize the chandelier for your space, you can paint it gold or all white.  Check out some of these inspirational pics...

If you have a tole chandelier in your home, I'd love to see how you've styled this beauty in your space.  If you have a picture you want to share, please send to me at anthologyhouse@gmail.com and it may be featured in a follow up Get the Look post.

Get the Look : Black Panther Lamp

Alyse Hufford

Today I begin a new weekly post called 'Get the Look', where I will feature a piece available for sale in the shop and how you can incorporate it in your home.  I am a huge believer that by mixing old and new pieces of furniture, lamps, pillows, and ceramics, your home will reflect your personality and turn your house into a home. This week I'm featuring the infamous black panther as a way to bring old school glamour to your home.  This cat ruled the 1950's and can be found in vintage collectibles from housewares to lighting.  I just listed this Hollywood Regency Panther Table Lamp in my Chairish storefront, completely rewired and for sale for $110.

You can get the look of Elizabeth Taylor's 1970's luxurious living room where she displayed a big cat on her side table amongst gilt and orange accents.  Or for a more current trend, check out one of my favorite designers Christine Dovey of Bijou & Boheme, who has a big ceramic cheetah in her home.

Displaying the big cat is not for the shy of heart.  But if you are looking to add a touch of old hollywood glamour to your space, you can't go wrong with this statement lamp. MEOW!
