Shop the Look

Alyse Hufford

In this month's 'Shop the Look', I share some inspirational photos on how you can incorporate some of the new vintage pieces I just listed into your home.  Check out these styled up spaces featuring similar vintage pieces to those I have for sale.  You can see how a vintage piece or two can add beauty and character to a vignette, dining room, shelves, or table top.

A Before & After Revamp

Alyse Hufford

Today I share with you a fun project I recently completed for a client's family and living rooms.  This styling project didn't involve paint or even the purchase of major furniture but rather adding a little bit of old, a little new, and shopping the client's personal effects to give her family an eclectic, fun space to play and hang out. Our goal was to add some character to her rooms by doing a little furniture rearranging and adding some decorative accessories.  She already had great staples with the oriental rug, grey couch, and white bookcase.  And I fell in love with her vintage cognac hue wingback chairs.  The space just needed a little color and a change up of some accessories to tie it to the rest of her home.

Below is the before photo:

And the after:

To revamp this space, I began with her bookcase and stacked books by color.  I then shopped for vintage pieces to dress it up and add some character.

I then removed the side table that was being used as their coffee table and replaced it with a mid-century modern style coffee table.  I added some of her personal objects and a pair of vintage brass cranes.

Next up was her new addition at the back of her house.  The new family room was a blank space with concrete floors, walls of windows, blue walls, and one lonely dining table.  The family wanted to create a hang out area for playing music, socializing, and enjoying meals with family and friends.

I started with the vintage auto shop rolling cart my client acquired and wanted to use as a bar cart.  I shopped for vintage barware and accessories to create a cool, industrial looking bar cart.

I hung a velvet pheasant painting above the cart - my client was hesitant at first - and when it was in place she agreed it had to stay.

And finally for this corner of the room, she asked for a set of mid-century style chairs and cozy durable rug.  She did not want a coffee table or ottoman as this was a high traffic route for her kids to the back yard.  But she insisted we carve out a spot for her guests to sit while she and her husband served up drinks.  And I couldn't agree more, the chairs and bar brought some fun and color to this space of the room.

This area of the 300 + square foot family room is complete, however I still have a little more work to do.  The client wants to finish off the other side of the space with a large side board to hold her wares and music area for her vintage piano.  I can't wait to get started and look forward to sharing pictures with you in my next big reveal.

Until then...Have a safe and fun-filled New Year!

Sneak Peak at Makers Market

Alyse Hufford

We've been busy curating pieces for the upcoming Makers Market to be held this Saturday, June 15th from 4-8pm at Center Studio.  We hope you can join us for sips and shopping. Below is a sneak peak at some of the vintage pieces that will be for sale. Local hangout, Company Bar has kindly partnered with the event to offer discount drink tickets at Happy Hour prices. Tickets are limited to one purchase per vendor, so if you buy from more than one vendor, each vendor will give out one ticket. What a value! Hope to see you there!
